Art is the universal communicator. Not only the Deaf are challenged to communicate exactly what we mean. The deaf sign for "I Love You" is incorporated in most of my creations. Whimsical movement, vibrant colors and mystic overtones combine to create all the themes seen in my art. Far East, Asian, Egyptian, Zuni, Greek and Aztec cultural influences flow within my designs. A world traveler, I am always on the move. Please contact my cousin Shelly Staten with inquiries.
The subject matter that I am interested in is representational. I strive to be thorough and accurate and yet catch what is fleeting and lively. The work I'm most proud of shows life as I see it: fatally flawed, but amazingly beautiful.
My work is a contrast of abstract design with geometric order. I’m drawn to repeating images and tend to build those into my work, while at the same time, I like looser brushstrokes and flowing lines. To me, that feels similar to life. You organize and schedule life, but there are so many unexpected life events. It’s a mix of order and chaos.

My background in art education empha- sizes a strong foundation of classical art training, greatly influencing my artistic focus and direction. My intent is to capture, on paper or canvas, mysterious and thought provoking scenes. Nature with its moods and soft edges has always inspired me to draw and paint abstracts, landscapes or figure studies. My art is in private collections nationwide; I've exhibited in galleries and juried shows in S. California, NW Arkansas and S. Oregon.
Inspired by French and Italian countrysides and her Southern Oregon surroundings, Katharine’s art is filled with sun-drenched colors that create charming, elegant and whimsical landscapes and vignettes. After earning her art degree from the University of Wisconsin, she pursued painting as her main focus, specializing in watercolor, acrylic and oils. Katharine continues to explore new themes from the whimsical to creative realism.
My art is guided by my instincts, my curious nature & sense of discovery, and great music rocking on my stereo. My goal is not perfection but rather to honestly represent my efforts & the outcome each new creation presents, whether it's capturing the alluring beauty of a woman or the juxtaposition of various metals & found objects together to create a unique piece of art. I currently work in oil, acrylic, watercolor, metal (copper's a favorite) and photography.
For me art/creativity is a natural expression of life, an endless unfolding of possibilities. What interests me is that which is not overtly expressed in the world around us. The subject matter of my painting is the subtle wordless realm of sensation, feeling, and intuition. This territory is often ethereal, quiet or soft and sometimes frontal, bold, direct or stormy.

Atelier LaRose, where craft and creativity collide. The studio is a hybrid of academic style and the liberal arts. Steven LaRose (b. 1963, Seattle, WA) lives and works in Talent, OR. He received his MFA from the Claremont Graduate University, and a BFA from Whitman College. He has had solo exhibitions in Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, and Ashland. His work has been discussed in the Los Angeles Times, ARTnews, The New Art Examiner, and The Chicago Tribune.
Working primarily in clay, I create mosaics, murals, sculpture and public art. Of particular interest is site-specific public art, which creates an opportunity to design a beautiful, permanent work for a specific location and client.
I begin my paintings with an idea. I build the painting layer by layer, drawing lines and shapes, looking for rhythm and feeling. My color sense is a reflection of my childhood in New Mexico fused with colors of my home in the Northwest. My goal is to go beyond the surface to find joy, wonder and a bit of mystery.
I have shown my works in galleries, juried, group and solo shows in Washington, Oregon, Montana and New Mexico. My paintings are in private collections in the west, New York and Norway.
